Measures to reduce motorcycling accidents

At a press conference, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior announced that its priority for 2024 is to reduce the number of motorcyclist accidents.
Minister Grande-Marlaska, among other measures, announced a compulsory course to validate the A1 with the B licence, compulsory use of approved gloves and a ban on jet type helmets on interurban roads, among other measures.
And the fact is that the increase of 19% in motorbike accidents in 2023 is worrying the DGT. 1,145 people died in accidents, 299 were motorcyclists, 45 more than in 2022.
Although motorbike accidents increased by 37% since 2012, registrations grew by 221%. Even so, the Interior and the DGT will focus in 2024 on reducing motorcyclist accidents with updated courses and specific measures.
ANESDOR, the motorbike industry association, is concerned and questions the effectiveness of some of the announced measures, citing examples from Germany and France where similar measures did not have a positive impact.
Still, there are no dates or forecasts yet and it will be seen in the course of the year whether each of them is possible and how they will be implemented.
